Amygdalin was first isolated from bitter almond seeds in 1830. Since the 1950s a modified form of Amygdalin has been marketed under the names Laetrile and Vitamin B17. Amygdalin is a nitriloside, a water-soluble, essentially non-toxic sugary compound present in over 800 plants. The richest source of Amygdalin is apricot kernels, but it appears naturally in most fruit seeds, many grasses, and a verity of beans.
