Eucalyptus 330mg (100 capsules)

The health benefits of Eucalyptus are attributed to a specific compound found in the oil of the leaves. This volatile compound is known as cineole, or eucalyptol. Another oil harvested from eucalyptus leaves,E. Citriodora, is often used for different aromatic preparations. In addition, these oils contain numerous beneficial phytochemicals, including quercetin and caffeic acid.

Appearance

Originally native to Australia, the tall stately eucalyptus tree grows in desert, swampland, valleys, and alpine regions. It finds nourishment in a complexity of soils and can survive in differing types of climate. Eucalyptus trees are quick growers and many species reach a great height, as much as 480 feet, exceeding in height even the Californian Big Tree (Sequoia gigantea). The shiny green leaves of the eucalyptus secrete a pungent oil. The bark has a spongy texture and can be pulled off in long strips.

History

The Aborigines ative Australians used the leaves of eucalyptus to help ease the discomfort wounds and fevers. They also knew that if they were stuck without water in the desert area of Australia known as the Outback, they could dig up some eucalyptus roots, which are filled with water, to have a drink.

Several marsupial herbivores, notably Koalas and some possums, have long made eucalyptus leaves their favorite food.

Eucalyptus leaves and the oil they produce repel bacteria and ease breathing difficulties in people with respiratory complaints. Eucalyptus is also used externally to ease aches and pains, and as a deodorant. Eucalyptus is added to perfume, soap, and some foods and drinks. It is also used as an insect repellent and is added to wax candles and insect sprays.
